This morning, Fifa official S. Blatter announced the immediate disqualification of Paraguay’s National team. When asked for the reasons for these sudden drastic measures, with only 47 days to go before kickoff, Blatter refrained from comment. Later this afternoon, Fifa spokesman Keith Cooper told the press that there is: “a narcotics investigation in progress, of which the outcome however, will not have any influence on Paraguay’s disqualification.” As disastrous as this may be for Paraguay’s National team, there are also those who can start celebration. Since the Dutch national team was the first runner-up in the competition, just a few points short of being able to qualify, the sudden disqualification of Paraguay means their reinstatement in the World Cup 2002. The dutch are back in the race! A press conference will be held friday afternoon, to shed light on this matters, and to clarify the reasons of Paraguay’s disqualification.
