Cane toads, the “seenzone” and message state by an author (Rubenerd)

Read receipts were designed to solve a problem, but they introduced other ones.

I like Ruben’s classification of message states in chat applications as cane toads: in an attempt to solve one problem, they introduce another.
I can relate to it, from email messages to chat notifications to threads in Slack. You never know exactly who has read what and more importantly, did the person understand the message?
At least Ruben now knows I’ve seen, read and understood his blogpost. And appreciate it.
