Unconferencing about GTD

6 June 2006 door Frank Meeuwsen

Already a couple of days ago but so much fun to do. I was at the Reboot conference in Copenhagen last week. This conference is different from others, since the program is made up by the participants itself. There are some speakers but there are also some open slots for anyone to fill in with whatever they like. The vibe of the conference is very future oriented. People talk about Open Wifi Networks, Marketing 2.0, Co-creation and several other webrelated topics. One speaker had a title of his talk: Bit Literacy: A New Strategy for Productivity in Your Bit-drenched Life. Sounded interesting enough to visit for me. But unfortunately this turned out to be more of a salespitch for an online emailreminderservice called GooToDo.com. Nothing wrong with that, seems like a good service, but not the information I was hoping for [[image:159826173_eede835339_m.jpg::left:0]]In the conference IRC channel we started talking about GTD. Together with some other GTD-afficinados we found out we could learn from eachother’s tips and implementations. We decided on the spot we would give a open-for-all discussionsession in a small part of the venue. After updating the wiki with our timeslot we made sure we informed the daypresenter so he could promote the session for us. I was quite surprised to see some 20-30 people show up to talk about GTD and timemanagement. Together with Ton Zijlstra, a knowledge-worker from the Netherlands, we hostede the discussion. We talked about different obstacles how to get your work done and shared some tips and tricks. You can find some rough ideas in the wiki. I talked some more about the Weekly Review and how I manage my daily life at home. After 45 minutes our time was up, but it was so much fun to do! I made some connections with other GTD-ers and someone even got inspired by this little blog! Wow! Maybe I will do some more talking about GTD in another session at work but in another format. This is called Pecha Kucha and it involves 20 slides you present for a maximum of 20 seconds each. I am working on some video’s I made during Reboot but in the meantime check these responses or this website for more information on this very dense way of presenting (photo courtesy of Kars Alfrink via Flickr)

Adobe/Macromedia entering the GTD-space?

26 May 2006 door Frank Meeuwsen

This afternoon I noticed a very interesting post on one of the developers blog from Adobe. They made a webbased tool called NoteTag, which gives you a flash-based environment to take notes. But that’s not all. The notes are not stored in some proprietary format like EverNote, but you can publish them directly to Blogger or del.icio.us for that matter. Any Atom supported service can work as a backend. Very very interesting! Check out the screencast for a cool demo! And the blog that goes with it :-) [[image:01_notetag_note_001.jpg::center:0]] The big downtake is you will need a Flex server to run it, but as a proof-of-concept I can imagine this further developed by a third party and put to use as an ASP model like Backpack or RememberTheMilk. Since we have certified Flex-developers in our company, I will surely check out if I can take some R&D time to discuss this concept a but further. It might be very interesting for projectgroups. But I can also see the GTD-link with this kind of applications.

Lil’ easteregg in Google Notebook

22 May 2006 door Frank Meeuwsen

I found a nice little easteregg which makes using Google Notebook even easier. Well…I found an article describing the easteregg. After enabling it you will see a little “note this +” sign next to your selected text. This makes it really easy to notate nice quotes, pieces of articles and other online stuff. Check it out for yourself.
