Has Google changed? Searchqueries disappear…

19 May 2005 by Frank Meeuwsen

Is it just me, or has Google changed the last couple of days for Firefox? It seems that whenever I type in a query in the Google searchbox, the resultpage doesn’t show the query in the searchbox anymore. Also, Google sometimes produces some really weird queries. For instance, I just searched for “Synchronizing Outlook offline laptop exchange” and Google gave me this: “Results 1-30 for […] synchronizing Outlook offline laptop Ec %%%exchange” Pretty weird huh! Anyone else have these problems with Google on Firefox?

Well, I can’t reproduce the problem.

If you recently added an extension or a GM userscript, that may be the culprit. I was having a hell of a time with Google Maps and Firefox until I disabled the Always Remember Passwords extension, on Google’s advice. Now it works like a charm.

YES! I have the same problem! The first page is fine, but
all subsequent pages have only the first word I typed. This is only happening with FireFox. If I use Internet Explorer, it is not problem. Therefore, I guess it must be a Firefox issue!

I found this page because I’m running into the same problem with IE on XP SP2. When I hit “Next” all the words dissapear but the first one. It doesn’t happen 100% of the time but like 80%.

@Jeff and Geff (hehehe): It seems that Brett’s comment is the right one. If you have greasemonkey scripts running, try disabling them. Jeff, since you’re working on IE, I am not sure what the problem can be…

Seems like it has to be happening on Googles end in that the link on the “Next” text clearly only contains the first word so the page was built that way. On the other hand I don’t see this behavior at work. Very strange.

If I view the source of the page I can see that the “Next” link clearly does not contain some of the words I searched on. So the problem is built into the original google search page (as opposed to happening when you click “Next”). Very strange…I don’t see this at work, just at home.
